Milk house
Plaster, powdered milk.
The Milk House explores the relationship between memory, home, and everyday domestic materials. Constructed from plaster and coated with powdered milk, the work draws upon the artists memories of growing up in Scotland, where powdered milk was a familiar household staple used as an economical alternative to fresh milk.
The distinctive scent of the material acts as a mnemonic device, evoking memories of family life and the routines of home. Taking the form of a simple house, the sculpture becomes a vessel for recollection, examining how ordinary objects and materials can carry emotional histories long after their original purpose has been forgotten. Through its modest materials, the work reflects on the enduring connection between place, memory, and belonging.
