Coterie is constructed from personal clothing, blankets, and textiles accumulated over more than three decades. Each circular form contains fragments of garments and fabrics connected to specific moments, places, and relationships within the artists life.
The work functions as a material archive in which memory is embedded within cloth.
Individual fragments act as repositories of lived experience, carrying traces of family, friendship, migration, domestic life, and personal history. Through the process of cutting, layering, rolling, and assembling, the textiles are transformed into concentric forms that suggest geological strata, tree rings, topographical maps, and records of accumulated time.
Rather than presenting memory as a fixed narrative, Coterie explores how identity is constructed through the layering of experiences and relationships. The title references a close-knit group of community, reflecting the networks of people, places, and histories held within the work.
