Drooth
Household sponges, sink plug, mixed media.
Named after the Glasgow word for thirst or longing, Drooth reflects on the experiences of distance from home. Constructed from domestic sponges and fitted with a dangling sink plug, the house form becomes a metaphor for connection interrupted.
The sponge's capacity to absorb and hold echoes the way memory, culture, and family histories are carried across time and geography. At the same time, the unplugged form suggests separation from the source that once sustained it. Balancing humor with personal reflection, the work considers migration not simply as movement between places, but as an ongoing negotiation between belongings and absence.
