First Dance
Vintage shoes, wax.
First Dance combines a pair of vintage shoes with carved wax baby's feet. The work was inspired by the artist's memory of standing on her father's feet while dancing together as a child-a gesture of affection, trust, and connection.
The oversized shoes support the small feet, creating a simple image of guidance and protection. While rooted in a personal recollection, the work speaks to a universal experience of childhood and the formative relationships that shape our sense of belonging. Through the juxtaposition of adult and child, the sculpture reflects on memory, family bonds, and the ways moments of care continue to resonate long after they have passed.
