Inheritance
Porcelain, soot, installation
Inheritance is constructed from collected porcelain cups whose interiors have been blackened through the accumulation of candle soot. The work reflects upon the objects passed between generations and the complex legacies they carry. While heirlooms often signify continuity, care, and belonging, they can also embody more difficult inheritances-grief, addiction, silence, trauma, and emotional patterns that persist across generations.
The darkened interiors suggest histories that remain present yet obscured, occupying a space between memory and forgetting. Through the transformation of familiar domestic objects, the work examines the ways visible and invisible inheritances shape identity and family experience.
Each time this installation is shown it needs to be updated with fresh candle soot.
